Off the Jet
This week we had a fascinating little project that came in to be cut on the waterjet. It is a helix gear out of a wind turbine. A couple of these gears have been failing and sample of the metal needed to be sent away for testing. Due to the size of the gear it wasn’t feasible to send the whole thing so we were tasked with cutting out a few chunks – and by chunks we are talking over 50mm thick by over 390mm long which took just over 3 hrs of machine time.

Legend 950 #36
Earlier this year SLS Trucking took on the task of customising #36 out of the 75 limited edition Legend 950’s released by Kenworth. #36 is proudly owned by Betts Bower Haulage Group.
The customisation work completed by SLS was extensive and ranged from bullbar lights, steer flares, drop visor, mirror lights and tank trims through to tandem mudguards, a single tier tow hitch, Icepack installation and everything in between. Work inside the cab included a 40L fridge install with custom cabinet and drawers along with custom Icepack key switch plate and document holders.
The truck then went to Showman Truck Lines and Scrolls where all the pin stripes, scrolls and signage was hand painted by Showy & his team. Owner Daniel Bower commented that he wanted the signwritting to contain the slight imperfections that come with doing it by hand, along with the visible brush strokes.
This is one awesome rig and is a credit to the team at Betts Bower.
